Hello everyone and Happy New Year. PipCAKES has quietly been keeping caking to a minimum over the last year, maybe you noticed?
But I can finally tell you that the reason behind it all is because I had a bun in the oven! Not only that, we also moved away from London and have relocated to the East Midlands. I hope I can keep all you London folk interested, as well as encouraging my new customers up here.
As always, Christmas is my favourite to bake. I love all the smells and creating cakes is a lot of fun. I made 2 Nutcracker cakes last year- 'Hans' & 'Freedrik'. I often let the cake lead me if I have no definite brief and these guys turned out to have a lot of character.

I had the best time back in October making my own wedding cake. Four tiers of fruit cake, gingerbread and chocolate cake. All the years of practice had taught me to start well in advance and to plan EVERYTHING, just in case you have a hiccup. I didn't have a hiccup as such, but I decided to re-make one of my tiers after I began the sugarpaste covering, as it just wasn't perfect enough. It was worth it. I do have to admit that I used a lovely lady to make my sugar flowers. I've never been great at them, and with a little baby in tow, I'd rather have peace of mind than the stress and worry. After all, I didn't just have a cake to think about. It ended up being a perfect day, despite the rain and I think my fruit cake has become rather popular.
